Why a Great Website Still Matters

Social platforms are useful distribution. They are poor archives. A website still matters because it is the place an organisation can keep a story in its own words, at its own address, after the post has fallen out of view.

A page is a promise

A serious page tells a visitor three things quickly: who this is, what they do, and what to do next. Decoration that delays those answers is not sophistication. The craft is in hierarchy, in type that can be read, in images that load, and in a path that works on a phone in a corridor with a poor signal.

It also matters that the site can be edited. A beautiful launch that needs a developer for every new paragraph will go stale. Structure the content as projects, services and essays — the model this website uses — and a future editor can replace a sample without rebuilding the page.

The site is not the campaign. It is the place the campaign can still be found.
